GM is the largest foreign car seller in China.
In the 1920's GM and road builders began a campaign to buy railways and destroy them. The campaign was called, "one person, one car".
GM's SUV and light trucks sales brought in a profit of $10-15,000 per vehicle, until after 9/11 the interest rates increased and GM engaged in marketing techniques which dropped their profit margins.
In 2008 SUV/light truck sales dropped 30% after gas prices started to rise, the profitibility of SUVs and light trucks started to decline in 2001, and the demand started to decline in 2004. Regardless of dropping margins and dropping demand, GM cancelled new sedan and small car development and instead went forward with the new SUV platform known as CXX, which was cancelled in Oct. 2008.
GM's sales of SUVs as a profit center dates back to the 1990's.
In September 2007, the UAW went on strike. Part of the contract talks? To Gaurantee that GM maintain SUV and light truck production. This is also in conjunction with the CAW(canadian auto workers)
The bottom line here?? GM has a business model that ISN'T SUSTAINABLE!!!!
They destroyed mass transit for roads and personal vehicles. It has been a great nearly 100 year run. But the US CANNOT MAINTAIN this type of approach to REAL transportation needs forever.
So, if the UAW helped build america into what it is TODAY, BUT their efforts were put to a NON SUSTAINABLE use.... then let these people go to work for a DIFFERENT approach to building an american mass transit system.
If the american taxpayer bails out GM, Ford, Chrysler... then the TAXPAYERS should take OWNERSHIP of these companies. And guess what? They're too fukking BIG!!!
It's time for america to start the green bubble. Real solutions to real problems, people will make a shytload of $$$ creating this bubble, and eventually many will lose their a$$ when it bursts, but in the end at least america will have an independant infrastructure that sustains the people who built it. Instead of the latter GM 'one person one car' approach which is reaching the end of its tenure as a profitable venture that was NEVER responsible in the first place, and one that has proven to sustain the needs of only the immediate.
The problem here is the UAW and GM/Ford/Chrys are addicted to the sweet profits of retardedly large suvs, and they can't kick the habit regardless of the signs on front of them that it aint workin no mo. Crackheads.
Just buy american, lets keep the dream alive for another 100 years....LMFAO!
